Does Aging Make You More Prone To Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. If you are unable to get and maintain an erection firm enough for sex, it is a symptom of ED and also high blood pressure can make it difficult for you to ejaculate. The definition of erectile dysfunction, defined as the inability of the penis muscle or erectile spina bifida to achieve and maintain adequate and satisfactory sexual performance, has changed drastically over the past 50 years.

Causes of ED

Erectile dysfunction itself is often associated with a variety of factors such as age, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other health conditions, as well as physical discomfort.

Men of all ages can still have erections, but as they age, natural testosterone decline and this may lead to loss of sex drive, lower libido, lack of sex drive, and struggling to achieve firm erection.

Well, aging doesn’t necessarily mean you will develop ED. It’s just that older men are more likely to have health conditions that require medication, which in turn can interfere with erectile function. Further, as men age, they may need more stimulation to get an erection and more time between erections.

Is ED treatable ?

And although ED’s frequency does increase with age, please know that it’s treatable regardless of your age and isn’t as unavoidable as you might think.

In fact, ED can have many causes not associated with aging which includes low testosterone, obesity, high cholesterol, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, heart disease and enlarged prostate to name some.

It’s quite difficult to determine the underlying cause of ED as it may vary individually. So it is the best advice to seek professional help. Your doctor can determine the cause of ED with a blood test and physical and psychosocial exams.

Once the problem is properly identified, you can take the proper medication and or actions for the treatment of your ED, so you can gain back your confidence, be happier and healthier.
